Fujinon Techno Stabi TS1440 Features

The polycarbonate, rubber-armored body allows you to take a firm grip on them. It comes with a wrist strap that attaches to either side of the body and comes with a floating neck strap for use on or around the water.

The placement of the focus knob and the interpupillary adjustment may take a little to get used to. Once settled in with them snuggly in your hands you will find them quite comfortable to hold.

The 14x40s weigh 2.7 lbs and have an LED indicator shows Standby/On/ Off, and battery status.

Because they come with nitrogen-purged fog-proof seals and are O-ring sealed, they are perfectly safe around wet conditions.

The Pelican 1400 case is a reinforced military-grade hard plastic carrying case designed for the toughest of conditions. Its O-ring sealed, water and bear-proof. It comes with custom-made foam to hold the batteries (4-AA, included), binoculars and flotation strap.

Prisms

Fujinon quality is clearly evident in their choice to use the best type of Porro-prism glass. The phase-coated BAK4 Roof Prisms of the TS1440-14×40 are made of superior optical glass to produce great brightness and contrast to give you clearer images.  The prisms move around on rotating gimbals so no quality is lost as they deflect counter-motion. The optics are as sharp with IS on or off because the prisms always have parallel sides.

Stabilization

Dual piezo-vibration sensors (one each for vertical and horizontal axes) are used for detecting repetitive and/or cyclical movements. This helps to lock on to subjects to provide +/-5 degrees vertical and horizontal image stabilization. What this means for you use that whether you’re in a plane, on a boat, in the back of a truck or walking on a trail, you’re going to get details of your subject because the IS system holds steady. There’s also a basic on/off button, eliminating the need to constantly push down.

Focus

Focusing is internal, done individually, and has a close focus of 16.5 feet (5m).

Power

A tray at the bottom of the TS1440-14×40 body houses the four AA batteries used to power the image stabilization system. They should last about 30 hours while in standby mode and around 4-5 hours with occasional image stabilization use. To extend battery life, auto-shutoff takes over after one minute of inactivity. An optional AC adapter and 12V power cord are available.

Image Quality

FUJINON’S unique EBC multi-coatings on every optical surface allow for exceptional light transmission to give sharp, high contrast, bright images with the truest colors, and freedom from glare, flare and ghosting.

Pros

  • Fast and precise image stabilization
  • Water and fog proof seals
  • Optics that deliver high-quality images
  • BAK-4 Roof prisms

Cons

  • Eyecups are too big
