Fujinon Xf 10 24mm F4 R Ois

Fujinon XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS Review

The Fujinon XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS isn’t quite a macro. It’s more versatile. Being capable of quickly moving from ultra-wide to standard focal length makes it a clear winner for capturing breathtaking landscapes that are clear and crisp from front to back.

Beefed up with image stabilization, and the quality craftsmanship found throughout the XF Series, makes the $899 price tag very reasonable.

Fujinon XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS Features

Architecture and landscape enthusiasts will love the balanced feel, quick autofocus and superior picture quality so easily achieved with this lens.

AF speed is delivered through its’ internal focusing system. Quiet and accurate operation stems from the lightweight internal lenses coupled with its’ stepping motor. Those demanding both upfront detail married with clear, sharp surroundings will appreciate the versatility and quality build.

Fujinon Xf 10 24mm F4 R Ois Features

Manual focus is by-wire. That means an encoder moves the lens by communicating with the camera’s computer. Be prepared; the heavily dampened zoom ring will take more than just a finger to move it around.

A hood is included, but you may want to replace it with one that isn’t apt to rattle.

Image Quality

Fujinon Xf 10 24mm F4 R Ois Image Quality

The Fujinon XF series is well-known for its’ ability to deliver distortion-free, edge to edge absolute clarity, and overall superior performance. The XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS is another example of that.

Sharp images are yours no matter the distance, and the Light falloff is completely invisible even wide open at f/4.

There is minor but minimal edge distortion at 10-11mm which is reduced as the lens is stopped down, but there are no ghosts to worry about

At 10-18mm you won’t find lateral color fringes, it’s not until you ramp up to 24mm that you might find a tiny bit of yellow-blue fringes on the corners. Shot as JPGs on the X-T1, lateral color fringes of any significance were not found.

Sunstars

Powerful, sharp and vibrant sun stars are easily attained thanks to the 7-blade diaphragm. As the blades open the points are softened. They’re almost gone at f/11 and completely disappear at f/8, f/5.6 and f/4.

Pros

  • Ultra-wide field of view
  • Optical Image stabilization
  • Versatile
  • Excellent image quality
  • Quick, quiet focus

Cons

  • No lens cap included
  • No focus distance markings
  • High cost
  • Movement of a switch is required to move between auto and manual focus

Fujinon XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS Review Conclusion

Without a doubt, wide-angle lovers will love the enormous field of view of the Fujinon XF 10-24mm F4 R OIS.

True, it doesn’t come cheap. Because it’s not made cheap. The quality materials and build deliver sharp images from foreground to background and includes optical image stabilization.

Whether you’re a real estate agent needing vibrant, clear interior pictures to help you make a sale, or a tourist wanting to capture the feel of stepping into that magnificently green mountain meadow, the cost is worth the prize.
